South Dearborn 4, Rushville 1

The following is an unedited girls varsity tennis report from South Dearborn coach Jason Krause.  We thank him for the report.

South Dearborn Lady Knights welcomed EIAC foe Rushville Lions to the Knights Tennis Complex. The Knights came away with a hard fought 4-1 victory. Number one singles player Madison Fentress used ball placement and great shot selection to control the momentum and the match winning 6-0, 6-3 against Barbara Hershberger.

Ashley Stevenson used ball control and hard work to come away with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Sky Herbert at number three singles.

Picking up the third and decisive point came from number one doubles team of Brooklyn Cromer and Emily Seward. In the first set, the duo moved the ball around and took advantage of opportunities to take the set 6-4. The second set the duo quickly lost momentum and could never get on track losing 0-6. After a ten minute break, heading into the third and final set, the duo regained their composure and started to make better choices. The duo took the final set away from Ainsley Flannery and Macy Rolfe 6-4.

Number two doubles team of Danielle Martini and Hailey Brandt played well, had nice rallies but lost the first set 2-6. In the second set, the momentum swayed between both duos, and nice shot selection among the Knights. But, the duo eventually fell to Emily McMinn and Gabby Brinson 5-7.

Rounding out the fourth and final point, was Sydney Yoe at number two singles. Sydney groundstrokes and ball placement helped her battled in the first set. Yoe found herself in a first set tiebreaker, neither player could not take control in the extra play, as Rushville’s Megann Sasher grabbed the 8-6 victory. After dropping a heartbreak tiebreaker, Sydney came back with her strong groundstrokes and determination to capture the second set 6-4. After a short intermission and the match in hand, the two played a super-tiebreaker to 10 points rather than a full third set. In the end, Yoe would not be stopped short of the victory as she took the momentum early and never looked back as she dominated the 10 point tiebreaker winning 10-2.

In junior varsity action, singles players; Brooklyn Halbig, Alexis Qualter, Sarah Rutherford, and Zowee Ott all fell to their opponent. Winning for the Knights in singles play was; Kelsie Jackson, Jennifer Wullenweber, Reagan Stevenson, and Madalynn Couch. In doubles play; duos of Jersey Tice and Tylee Baker and Abby Baxter and Marissa Geiser lost to their opponent. Doubles team of Chloe Steigerwald and Jessalynn Suesz and Annie Brown and Anjul Cash won their matches.
