South Dearborn 3, Milan 2

The following are unedited varsity girls tennis reports from South Dearborn coach Jason Krause and Milan coach Kyle Flynn.  We thank them for the reports.

(South Dearborn) South Dearborn traveled to Milan to take on the Indians. The Knights came away with a 3-2 victory. Madison Fentress played a great match, she quickly got the momentum and didn’t let up. She worked the ball around the court and had great groundstrokes and serves. Fentress defeated Tulsi Patel 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles. Picking up the second point of the night was Sydney Yoe at number two singles. Yoe had great shots, and moved her opponent around the court. She changed the pace of the ball to keep her opponent off guard, and kept the pressure on as Sydney won 6-1, 6-0 against DeLanie Weber. The third and decisive point came from Ashley Stevenson at number three singles. Stevenson played a great match, had nice shot and let her opponent make the mistakes. She found early success and kept up the momentum by defeating Maitri Patel 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action; number one duo of Brooklyn Cromer and Emily Seward played a great match. The two had nice rallies, and well played points, the momentum swayed constantly in the first set. The duo battled back and found themselves tied at 6 and headed into a tiebreaker. Milan took advantage of some errors by the Knights and took the tiebreaker 7-2. The second set, continued to showcase good team play, but the Knights eventually fell 3-6 to Abigail Riehle and Tori Haessig. Number two doubles team of Lacey Horn and Danielle Martini played well; had nice hits, rallies, and never gave up. Miscues effected the duo’s momentum throughout the match. The doubles team lost 3-6, 2-6 to Megan Berger and Margo Taylor.

In junior varsity play, everyone is getting better day by day. Number one singles player Hailey Brandt played a fantastic match winning 8-6, also winning for the Knights in singles were Reagan Stevenson 6-2, Alexis Qualters 6-3, and Sydney Brandt 6-3. Singles players Madalynn Couch Jennifer Wullenweber, and Sarah Rutherford were defeated in their match. In doubles action teams of Brooklyn Halbig and Kelsie Jackson, Anjul Cash and Chole Steigerwald, and Jess Suesz and Anjul were defeated by their opponents. Winning in doubles were Jersey Tice and Tylee 6-2 and Abby Baxter and Marissa Geiser 6-1.
