Seymour- Greensburg squared off against host Seymour in the first round of the Seymour Regional Tuesday and came away with a 5-0 win.
Leading the sweep was the second doubles team of Alexis Bailey and Claire Welage as they were first off the court with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
“Bailey and Welage just kicked it up a notch after winning the first set and ran away with the second to set the tone for the night,” said Pirates’ coach Gary Bailey.
Just like the sectional final, the first doubles tandem of Vanessa Lawrence and Lyndsey Louder finished next and did so in 7-5, 6-3 fashion.
The deciding point came at second singles when Danielle Schroeder won 6-3, 6-1. Kaeli Fong, at third singles, followed with steady play to win 6-3, 6-3. And to wrap it up, Sara Kramer battled through a long first set winning 7-5 then took the second set 6-2.
“What I was so pleased with tonight was how we closed out matches when we got into position to do so,” added Bailey.
The Pirates (15-2) will take on state ranked Columbus North (15-8) Wednesday at 5:30 pm for the regional championship. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Bloomington South 3-2 on Tuesday.
