Bishop Chatard 3, Batesville 0; 2A Regional Championship

Girls Varsity Soccer- 2A Regional Championship

Bishop Chatard 3, Batesville 0

Match summary from Batesville coach Kyle Laker:  “Eariler at the Plainfield Invitational, Batesville defeated Bishop Chatard 3-1.  In the rematch at the regional finals, both teams went back and fourth throughout a scoreless first half. Batesville had a 6-3 edge in shots and a 3-2 edge on corner kicks.”

“Chatard capitalized on a Lady Bulldog mistake deep in their territory two minutes into the half as Sophie Sergi ripped a shot up and over Gabi Garcia’s gloves in goal to take a 1-0 lead.  For 28 more minutes, Batesville tried everything it could to find the equalizer. At one point, a Batesville shot ricocheted off the crossbar and bounced out.  Garcia was pulled from goal with 14 minutes to play and the Bulldogs pushed numbers forward to get aggressive and try to even the score.  However, things went south for the Lady Bulldogs as the Lady Trojans got free on a breakaway with 12 minutes to play to go up 2-0.  They added a third goal with six minutes to go to put it out of reach. Despite having an 18-10 edge on shots and a 7-2 edge on corners, Batesville could not find the back of the net.”

“I was happy with how we played throughout the match. We had opportunities and I thought we were the better team. That’s why you play the game and sometimes the breaks just don’t go your way. I am extremely proud of our team and how the girls fought until the end. We had a great season (17-3) and will come back even stronger next season. We will miss our seniors dearly and wish them the best of luck!”

SEI Local Sports thanks coach Laker for the match information.
