Season ends for all local regional qualifiers

Greensburg’s Bryce Mize- “With the top three teams in the 18-team field earning a spot at the IHSAA State Finals, the Pirates’ 4th place finish at Edgewood had them narrowly missing out. In what were cold and overcast conditions, the Lady Pirates stuck together and posted a team score of 353.”

Even though a state finals berth was not in the cards, the Lady Pirates put together one special season. Highlights include an EIAC Championship, a second place finish at the IHSAA Sectional, a second place finish at the Greensburg Invitational, and the aforementioned fourth place finish at Regional. Additionally, the Lady Pirates earned a season record of 15-1, with their only loss being to state finals bound Columbus North.”

“On a personal note, we bid farewell to three terrific seniors: Claire Dennett, Maddy Wickens, and Rachel Nobbe. They played with pride and made this program what it is today. They will most certainly be missed in the coming years, but their legacies will not be forgotten”

Franklin County’s Marisa Mears- “Well it certainly wasn’t our best day. We started out very slowly with some big numbers on the first nine holes. We rebounded a little and turned in a respectable back nine score. There were quite a few teams my team had beaten in earlier tournaments that edged us out. I was proud of my team for turning it around on the back nine. They were put into a situation where they very easily could have given up but fought back and turned in the best score they could. Although the season didn’t quite end the way we wanted it to, my team can hold their heads up high for having yet another successful year. We lose a very strong senior, Abby Orschell, but we will continue to build on all our successes and look forward to another great season next year.”

Shawe’s David Hertz- “”We didn’t worry about scoring low today. Today was about having a good time and reflecting on Katie’s high school career. Hopefully she has enjoyed it as much as I have.”

We thank the IHSAA for the full results and coaches Mize, Mears and Hertz for additional reports.
