Franklin County breaks record taking 5th at Lapel Regional

Saturday, September 23 at Edgewood Golf Course in Anderson

Girls Varsity Golf- Lapel Regional

Top 3 teams advances to state finals: Fishers 1st/305, Columbus North 2nd/306, Hamilton Southeastern 3rd/306).  Local results:  Franklin County 5th/335 and Greensburg 16th/386.

Individual Regional Champion: Morgan Lewis of Fishers, 66

Franklin County coach Marisa Mears: “The Lady Wildcats shot an 18-hole, team record 335 which earned them 5th place out of 18 teams. This is the lowest finish in a regional for any Wildcat golf team. Seniors Dana Branstetter and Kendyl Brack both shot 78, which was low for the team and also earned them a 12th place finish in a field of 110 players.  They also missed advancing as individuals to the state tournament by one stroke.  My team picked a great day to shoot their best score of the season. I had three players shoot their personal bests: Kendyl Brack 78, Maggie Brack 86 and Gracie Graf 98. All of my players broke 100 which is also a first of the season.  Abby Orschell shot 93.  We may have come up short on advancing, but we played against some powerhouses. It’s very possible the state champ will come out of this regional. It was very bitter sweet knowing we broke the school record, but it was the last time Dana and Kendyl will tee up as a Wildcat. They both have made Franklin County High School proud with their dedication and talents on and off the golf course. They will both move on to do great things but will definitely missed.”

Greensburg scoring: Claire Bennett 90, Madalyn Wickens 97, Ellie Acra 99, Kennedy McCullough 100 and Rachel Nobbe 100.

Local individuals: Batesville’s Meredith McCreary 83 and Rushville’s Madyson Carmony 98.
