Lawrenceburg 66, Rising Sun 30- Round 1 River Town Classic

Aurora- For a second time this season, Lawrenceburg defeated Rising Sun by a substantial margin.  At LHS in November, the Tigers won 65-37. Wednesday’s 2019 Girls River Town Classic round one final was a similar outcome, 66-30.

Coach Zane White’s Tigers were playing after suffering just their first loss of the season at last week’s Southwestern’s Rumble On The River. LHS fell in the finals to an equally talented 3A Scottsburg team that’s 15-2.

While coach Abby Friend’s Shiners opened with an early 4-2 lead, it was all Lawrenceburg after that.  The Tigers were up 14-6 at the first stop and 33-10 at half thanks to a 19-4 second quarter.

The Burg’s Juliana Kemper outscored the Shiners on her own with 13 points and also grabbed seven rebounds.  Teammate Macey Radenheimer struck from long distance twice and added a free throw for seven points.  Lindsay Montgomery logged six points for Rising Sun.

Over the first 16 minutes, the LHS defense held RS to just 18 percent shooting from the field while converting 46 percent of its own shots. The Tigers also outrebounded the Shiners by 10 and scored 14 points off turnovers.

Down 27 in the third quarter, Rising Sun strung together six points for its only run true run of the night but still trailed 45-22 with a quarter to go.  Lawrenceburg steadily added to its sizeable spread in the fourth and eventually posted a 36-point victory, 66-30.

Makenna White led the Tigers in the second half with nine points while Jenna Farmer added seven.  Montgomery continued to pace the Shiners in scoring with nine points over the final two periods.
