Switzerland County 46, South Dearborn 36

Vevay- Down three starters to injury, Switzerland County’s Lady Pacers somehow grinded out a 46-36 season opening win at home over South Dearborn.

Both programs returned the vast majority of their players from last season where the Knights beat the Pacers twice by 20 and 18 points.  But on Tuesday night, coach Mark Boggs’ ladies from Vevay won by 10.

South Dearborn coach Doug Robertson, in his first year with the Knights after spending the last four at Franklin County, has been implementing a new system for his squad and knew it would take some time for things to gel.

On the game’s fourth lead change, the Pacers scored the opening stanza’s final seven points to lead 12-6.  SwitzCo’s Aleiah Thomas hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points and Jaden Harrell came off the bench to contribute four.

The Knights began the second quarter with a 7-2 run to pull within 14-13 but, by halftime, the hosts were back up six, 21-15.  Thomas tallied nine more points to give her 15 at intermission.  SD’s Krystin Bond netted five in the frame to total seven points at the half.

Both teams hit 42 percent from 2-point range during the first 16 minutes but Switz was 3 of 7 in threes while the Knights were just 1 of 12.

In the third, South Dearborn rallied again with seven straight points to tie the game a final time at 28-28, but Switzerland County held a 30-29 edge at the stop.  Bond had nine points in the period to lead the visitors.

The closing quarter stayed tight until the Pacers put some distance between them and the Knights late with 7 of 10 free throw shooting and a game ending deuce.  Thomas, Jessie Duvall and Rylee Hankins all contributed at the stripe down the stretch.

SEI Local Sports congratulates Switzerland County’s Aleiah Thomas as our Whitewater Motor Company Player Of The Game.  Thomas scored a game-high 23 points.

Krystin Bond led South Dearborn with 18 points in the loss.
