Jac-Cen-Del, Tindley win 1A Regional 15 Semis

Shelbyville- Jac-Cen-Del made a familiar 43-mile drive to Southwestern (Shelby) High School Saturday for its 10th consecutive Class 1A Regional appearance.  In the second game of the Regional 15 semifinals, the Lady Eagles defeated University 66-57.

Coach Justin Blanding’s Lady Trailblazers were the new kids on the block at Southwestern as Jac-Cen-Del, Tindley and Bloomfield were all back for a third straight year.  It was University’s fifth regional appearance but the first since 2012 and the first-ever for Blanding.

University held one lead, 5-4, in the first quarter and tied the game three different times in the opening half. It was 15-11 Jac-Cen-Del after the first frame.  Following the final tie of 25-all late in the second stanza, the Eagles were up 30-25 at halftime.

JCD’s edge was due in part to rebounding where the Eagles had a 22-13 advantage including 9-3 on the offensive end.  Eight different Osgood gals scored. Paige Ledford led the way with six points and Morgen Carroll had five. For the club from Carmel, Lindsey Syrek posted 10 points and Brooke Andrus followed with eight.

Coach Scott Smith’s Lady Eagles steadily increased their favorable point spread in the third and held a 52-38 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth as JCD tried to kill clock, University got back in the game and trailed by just five, 57-52.  But the Eagles regrouped and hit 9 of 13 free throws down the stretch to secure the 66-57 victory.

Jac-Cen-Del’s Lilly Simon hit 6 of 9 charity tosses in the fourth quarter and finished with a team-best 20 points.  Morgan Carroll had 10 points and was a major force on the glass (total rebounds not available as of this release). SEI Local Sports congratulates Simon and Carroll as our Whitewater Motor Company Players Of The Game.

For University, Lucy Snyder had 19 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 21.  Linsey Syrek carded 15 points and teammate Brooke Andrus along with JCD’s Mariah Day each had 10.
