(BKT/G-Thu) Shooting AWOL for Lady Trojans in Connersville

Connersville- East Central’s Lady Trojans went up against a Connersville team Thursday that remembered the 20-point win EC pulled off in St. Leon a year ago, the first in 10 seasons. Connersville returned the favor on its home floor 58-32.  The Trojans continue to struggle for wins outside of the EIAC dropping to 2-8 against non-conference opponents.

Spartan junior standout Tierra Huntsmann (22 ppg) who was held to just six points last season, put up 25 Thursday despite a near constant double team by EC.

With the game tied at 9-9 and with just under two minutes to go in the first quarter, Connersville went on a 25-8 run to close the half to go up 34-17. East Central had a nice spurt to pull within 10 but the Spartans took off again and won easily by 26.

It was not a good shooting night at all for the St. Leon ladies hitting only 8 of 38 (21%) from the field and a painful 13 of 34 (38%) from the free throw line.

“We were happy to get to the line that many times with our opponent playing a zone much of the night but, when we’re there, we have to capitalize and we didn’t do that,” said Trojan coach Kevin Moore.

Coach Moore is optimistic that his team will pull together to move forward.

“Our young kids have some growing up to do down the stretch and in the off-season if we want to take that next step as a program,” said Moore. “We have faith and confidence they will do that. We just hope it’s sooner rather than later.”
