St. Leon- Lawrenceburg’s girls freshman basketball team won its opening round game of the EIAC tournament against Franklin County on Monday but lost in the semifinals to East Central on Wednesday.
On Monday, the Tigers defeated Franklin County 26-9. It was the third victory (and largest of the three) over the Wildcats this season.
The Burg’s Paxton Parris produced 13 points. Joining her in scoring were: Megan Sampson 8, Casey Larson 4 and Kathryn Rennekamp 1.
This was our 3rd time beaing FC this season and the largest margin of victory. Our record was 9-4 after this game.
On Wednesday, East Central held of Lawrenceburg in the semis 25-22. The Tigers opened with a 6-3 first quarter lead but the Trojans had a big 11-2 second quarter to go up 14-8.
LHS rallied to tie the game at 16-16 by the end of the third but EC was three points better in the fourth to win 25-22.
“We gave them everything we had and outscored them (EC) in the second half but it wasn’t enough,” said Lawrenceburg coach Molly Ahlman. “I was so proud of my team after this game and as a whole on the season. The amount of improvement from the first game to the end was incredible.”
Scoring in the semifinals for Lawrenceburg were: Emily Sampson 6, Paxton Parris 6, Grace Weismiller 4, Megan Sampson 4 and Casey Larson 2.
