Vevay- The Rising Sun Lady Shiners repeated the feat of the boys basketball team Saturday as the RS gals made it two out of three wins on the season against Switzerland County Tuesday in Vevay.
With the win, RS will keep the traveling “Ruler of the River” trophy sponsored by our friends at the Ohio County and Switzerland County newspapers.
It was a 10-10 tie after the first quarter as Eve Galbreath netted six first quarter points for the Pacers and Sydney Willhite scored four for the Shiners.
After a Kelly Kincaid basket put Switz up by three, RS went on a 6-0 run that was capped by a triple via Shelby Armstrong. While the Pacers came back to tie the game at 16 on an Emily White deuce, Switz never regained the lead in the contest.
A Megan Pickett three ball gave the Shiners their biggest lead of the half at 10 before a 6-0 trip by SC, with four points by White, made it a 27-23 Rising Sun lead at the break.
The Pacers had ample opportunity to seize the top spot during the first half. Rising Sun committed a dozen fouls which afforded Switz 15 free throw chances. The Vevay ladies only made five.
Another 6-0 run in the third got Switzerland County back within two; however, Rising Sun went on a 9-1 spurt to go back up by 10. Through three quarters, Rising Sun was up eight, 40-32.
