Milan 46, Switzerland Co. 0; Indians win MIFC

Milan- Under fall-like temperatures for the first time this football season and light to moderate rainfall to boot, Milan captured its third straight undefeated MIFC title with a 46-0 shutout of Switzerland County.

On Senior Night in Milan, coach Ryan Langferman’s Indians won their 16th straight game against conference opponents dating back to Week 9 of the 2015 season.

This game was seen live as part of our Margaret Mary Health Fall Webcast Schedule.  See it again archived in 720p HD by clicking here.

For Switzerland County, it was a tough night.  The Pacers lost two of their offensive linemen to illness prior to the game and that made things even easier for Milan’s strength- its defensive front.  Switz never had a positive play from scrimmage until its third offensive series and finished the night with only 21 yards of total offense

Milan’s defensive line was named one of our Whitewater Motor Company Players Of The Game as the unit combined for, unofficially, 12 tackles for a loss.  The other honor was given to Indians’ running back Tyler Smith.  The senior had 19 carries for 188 yards and four touchdowns: 28, 22, 3 and 11 yards.

Milan QB Parker Lewis threw for a pair of touchdowns finding Orrin Schmidt and Brady Stehlin for 34 and 29 yards respectively.  Stehlin, by the way, had over 137 yards from scrimmage on only six touches.  The full back logged three receptions for 55 yards and three carries for 82 yards.

The Indians’ final score of the night was an unconventional one.  At its own 45, Milan started a running play up the middle.  The ball came loose and was picked up at the midfield stripe by Indians’ offensive guard Dakota Sams.  Sams who rumbled a half a field for six points.

The Pacers’ top offensive performer was Dezmond Lange who notched four carries for 40 yards in the second half.

The wet weather did play a role in ball security all night.  Switzerland County fumbled five times and lost four.  Those were recovered by Milan’s Chandler Reatherford, Trayton Robbins, Dakotah Knueven and Schmidt.

The Indians coughed it up four times and lost three.  Those were picked up by the Pacers’ Logan Skaggs, Lange and Zack Weaver.

SC also threw one interception that was snagged by the Indians’ Joel Norman who was just four yards shy of returning the rock for a pick six.
