South Dearborn 34, Rushville 6

Rushville- The South Dearborn Knights completed a perfect road regular season Friday night, defeating Rushville 34-6.  The Knights improved to 6-2 overall on the season with five of those victories coming on the road.  Rushville, playing without rushing leader Cameron Craig, fell to 4-4 on the season.

The Knights did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard. Starting at their own 45 after recovering an onside kick on the opening kickoff, SD needed only two plays and 43 seconds to find the end zone.  Quarterback Adam Dixon hit Ethan Getz for an 8-yard completion, then David Blair took a handoff and raced down the right sideline 47 yards for a touchdown.  Getz took a low snap on the PAT and darted to the left pylon for the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0 for the visitors.

Rushville moved the ball on its opening possession.  Starting at their own 30, the Lions moved the ball to the Knight 40.  After the hosts’ Nick Lawler converted a 4th and 2, Rushville soon faced another 4th and 2.  This time, however, the Knights defense dropped the Rushville ball carrier for a 4-yard loss and give the ball back to the SD offense.

Starting from their own 39 yard line, the Knights covered 61 yards in only nine plays.  SD went to the air as Dixon completed 4 of 5 passes.  Blair had a 26-yard catch and run to move the Knights into Lions territory while Chance Sperringer caught 3 passes including a 4-yard touchdown.  Zach Dick added the point after to make it 15-0 in favor of the visitors from Aurora.

The Knights forced a Lion punt on the next possession, the only punt by either team in the game.  After a holding penalty on 1st down moved them back to their own 35, the Knights went to Timmy Dick.  The junior, filling in at running back for an injured Dalton Guthrie, carried on all five plays as South Dearborn scored for the third consecutive possession.  Timmy Dick got SD deep into Lions territory with a 54-yard run and capped the drive with a 2-yard TD tote.  Rushville blocked the PAT but South Dearborn had extended its lead to 21-0.

The Lions put together an impressive drive on their next possession that, unfortunately for Rushville, did not produce any points.  Starting from their own 32, the Lions’ Mason Springman hit Austin Trebley for an 8-yard reception.  A defensive pass interference penalty allowed the Lions to keep the drive alive and eventually rush the rock down to the Knights 10-yard line.  However, that’s where the drive ended.  SD forced and recovered a fumble on the next play as the score remained 21-0 Knights at the half.
