Fundraiser for Pacer football player Colton Schirmer

The following edited fundraiser information for injured Switzerland County freshman Colton Schirmer was submitted by Switzerland County head football coach Ryan Jesop.

This Saturday, December 16, Vevay Shell along with Hunt Brothers Pizza will be hosting a pizza fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. A full 100 percent of all pizza sales will go toward Colton’s medical expenses.  Hunt Brothers Pizza is also matching all proceeds and any donations collected Saturday.

In November, I took a group of football players and coaches up to visit Colton for the first time since his accident. WLWT was there to cover his story, and our reunion, which included the one item he asked me to bring him, a Hunt Brothers pizza from the Shell station in Vevay.  Interestingly enough, the story got back to the Hunt Brothers’ headquarters in Lexington, KY.  Tina Johnson contacted me from Hunt Advantage Group, LLC and, along with Joe Stephenson at our local Shell gas station, came up with the idea of hosting this fundraiser.

Colton is a freshman and first-time football player who participated in his first varsity game on October 6 at North Decatur.  While blocking on the second kickoff return of the night, he was involved in contact which fractured his fourth and fifth cervical vertebrae.  He was airlifted to Riley’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis within 45 minutes of the initial contact.

Colton spent the next month and a half at Children’s recovering from his injuries before being sent home on November 22.  He was taken to a new care facility in Shelbyville called Especially Kids on December 4.

Colton continues to fight to regain his mobility every day through intense physical and occupational therapy sessions.  He is set to be evaluated at the Frazier Clinic in Louisville on Thursday in hopes he will be admitted to their facility for continued physical and occupational therapy.

Posts about his recovery, from the very first night of the injury to the present, can be found at https://www.facebook.com/FriendsofSCFootball/

Some updates and details have been shared over the last month and a half on his GoFundMe page too.

Money has came in from many different football programs throughout the state of Indiana, from the Little League to varsity level. As a community, we have raised over $13,000 to assist his family with the costs involved in his recovery, but that alone doesn’t begin to cover the many expenses they have accrued over the last month and a half.

Please join the Switzerland County football program and the Vevay community at this fundraiser for Colton on Saturday, December 16 at the Shell gas station in Vevay.

SEI Local Sports thanks coach Jesop for this fundraiser information.
