Greensburg- The Greensburg Pirates scored touchdowns late in the second quarter and early in the third quarter to break open what had been a tie game, and went on to a 26-7 road victory over the North Decatur Chargers Friday night.
The game was heard live as part of our Indiana Virtual Academy high school football webcast schedule on SEI Local Sports and is available (after 12 pm Saturday) for replay in our webcast archives.
North Decatur struck first, scoring on their first possession with an 11-play, 83-yard drive. The Chargers loaded the left side of the line and junior quarterback Brock Ricke rolled out in that direction. Ricke then fired a pass back to the right side, where senior tailback Jason Kirchoff had quietly slipped behind the defense. 44 yards later he was in the end zone and the Chargers had a 7-0 advantage with 1:13 to go in the first quarter.
The Pirates wasted no time tying up the game, completing a 7-play, 54-yard drive with a one-yard burst from senior halfback Elliott Green with 10:57 to go in the first half. That’s where it remained until just before halftime.
The Pirates took the lead for good with just 41 seconds left in the first half on a three-yard run from senior fullback Ryan Martin. The point-after kick was unsuccessful, but Greensburg took a 13-7 lead into the locker room.
