Bloomington North 4, Greensburg 1; BN Regional Semifinal

Tuesday, October 3 at Bloomington North

Boys Varsity Tennis- Regional Semifinal

Bloomington North 4, Greensburg 1

Edited match report from Greensburg coach Gary Bailey: “The 12th ranked Cougars took down the Pirates 4-1.  Getting Greensburg’s lone win was Tucker Bailey and Sam Bower at #2 doubles. The All-EIAC pair opened up winning the first three games with solid aggressive play. A small let down allowed the Cougar pair to win two games before Bailey and Bower shut them down, winning the first set 6-2.  In the second set, the Bloomington pair tried to temper the aggressive play of the Pirates by going to a lob game. That strategy worked early as the Pirate duo fell behind 3-2 before getting back on track, winning the final four games and the set 6-3. Tucker and Sam really became a very good doubles team as the year went on. They end the year with a 19-5 record.”

“The rest of the team match was all Bloomington North.  The Pirates’ Kyle Sellers was matched up against an All-State player from last year in Max Rogers. Sellers battled but, in the end, Rogers pulled away with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.  Kyle ends the season with a 21-3 record. For his career, he was 63-31, 3-time All-EIAC, 2-time EIAC MVP, all at #1 Singles. Kyle has been a model for our program the last four years. He will be really missed.”

“At second singles, Trevor Foster dropped his match 6-0, 6-0. Trevor just ran into a buzz saw.  He had a great year earning a record of 20 wins and just 4 losses.”

“At #3 singles, Brett Stringer fell short by a 6-0, 6-1 score. As a freshman, Brett stepped into the varsity lineup in what turned out to be a very competitive position. It seemed that every team had a solid #3 player this year. Brett faced some great competition and ended the season with a record of 15-7.”

“At #1 doubles, Logan Smith and Ben Duerstock dropped their match 6-0, 6-1. Most teams anymore load up their #1 doubles team as they have a change to advance in the post season. So Logan and Ben also faced some very good teams this year.  They end the season with a very good 19-6 record.

“This team, from the very start, was a blast to work with. They work hard, have fun both on and off the court and love the game. We go 17-2, win the Hagerstown Invite, win the EIAC team title, win the sectional for the seventh straight year and place third in the 8-team Shelbyville Invite. By all measures, we had a very fine season, I couldn’t ask for much more from them.”

SEI Local Sports thanks coach Bailey for the match information.
