Rising Sun 3, South Spencer 1; Shiners make regional finals for first time

Clarksville-  Rising Sun, playing in the boys soccer regional for the first time since 2000, advanced to the 1A championship game Saturday at Providence with a 3-1 win over South Spencer.

The victory was the first-ever boys soccer win in a regional for the Shiners.

This match was seen live as part of our Margaret Mary Health Fall Webcast Schedule. See it again archived in 720p HD by clicking here.

Just 75 seconds into the match, Rising Sun’s Zac Brokaw fired past the Rebel goalkeeper to give the Shiners a 1-0 lead.  It was the first-ever goal scored by a Rising Sun player in a regional.

Then it was Tyler Basham of South Spencer tying the match, 1-1, with a netter at the 20:32 mark.

A little over six minutes later at 14:05, Rising Sun went back up, 2-1, when Jake Bovard scored off of a crossing pass from the right corner by Brokaw.  That was the final goal of the half.

The second half went scoreless for almost 35 minutes. With 5:05 left to play, the Shiners’ Landon Cole took a through ball from Brent Webb.  Cole one touched the ball to get around the oncoming Rebel keeper and drilled a shot into the left side of the open net.  Rising Sun won 3-1.

Zac Brokaw of the Shiners was named our Whitewater Motor Company Player of the Match. Brokaw had a goal and an assist.
