Lawrenceburg 4, South Dearborn 0; 2A Sectional 28 Title

Lawrenceburg- The Lawrenceburg Tigers won their first-ever Class 2A Sectional Title on Saturday night, defeating South Dearborn 4-0.  The last sectional crown for Lawrenceburg was a 1A title in 2016.

This match was seen live as part of our Margaret Mary Health Fall Webcast Schedule.  See it again archived in 720p HD by clicking here.

Neither team was able to find the net for the first 30 minutes of the game.  At the 5:40 mark of the first half, the Tigers’ Ben Lorey dribbled through two Knight defenders and fired a shot from the right wing.  It found the side net and put the hosts up 1-0.  Lawrenceburg took that lead to the half.”

LHS wasted very little time scoring once the second half started.  As a matter of fact, it took only 24 seconds for the Tigers to score their second goal of the match.  The hosts quickly played the ball into the South Deaborn 18.  Jason Goepper of Lawrenceburg took advantage of a poor South Dearborn clearing attempt and launched a shot past the Knights’ keeper to put the Tigers up 2-0.

At the 30:29 mark, Lawrenceburg struck again.  Goepper saved the ball from going out over the endline and sent it back across the goal.  Adam Cosby took the pass and rifled the rock between the pipes.  It was now 3-0 Lawrenceburg.

With 14:07 to play, the duo hooked up again as Goepper assisted on Cosby’s second goal to push the lead to 4-0.  The four netters were more than enough for the Tiger defense and keeper Zach Kozlowski.  Kozlowski recorded his second consecutive shutout as Lawrenceburg won the title.

The Tigers advance to the Greensburg Regional on Saturday, October 13 where they will play Herron at 10 am.  The Achaeans advanced with a 3-0 win over Monrovia.  In the 12 pm match, Frankfort will take on Cardinal Ritter.  The winners will play for the regional title at 7 pm.

Jason Goepper and Adam Cosby of Lawrenceburg were named our Co-Whitewater Motor Company Players of the Match.  Goepper had a goal and two assists for the match. Both assists were teamed with Cosby’s two goals.
