South Dearborn 3, Greensburg 2- 2A Sectional 28 Semifinal

Lawrenceburg- South Dearborn and Greensburg battled in a tight 2A Sectional 28 semifinal Wednesday at Lawrenceburg.  The Knights, with a stronger offensive second half, pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Pirates.

This match was seen live as part of our Margaret Mary Health Fall Webcast Schedule.  See it again archived in 720p HD by clicking here.

Coach Mike Wallace’s Knights had an early possession advantage for about the first 10 minutes.  Then coach Cody DeVolld’s Pirates started to even things up in the control department.

With 18:16 to go in the first half, Greensburg’s Joseph Pacilio shot a bullet from the mid-left of the 18 to inside of the right post giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

The Bucs held the 1-0 to the break.  After 40 minutes, South Dearborn held a 7-5 advantage in total shots but the two clubs were event, 3-3, with shots on goal.

SD came out noticeably more aggressive in the second half.  That aggression led to a pair of goals within about two minutes of each other.

The first was a monster blast from Kevin Brown near midfield.  His ball took a high one hop up and over the keeper and into the net.  At 23:11, the match was even at 1-1-1.  Then at 23:09, the Knights went ahead 2-1 as Jacob Brose headed the ball home on a second chance shot following a miss.

Greensburg forged a 2-2 tie with 12:48 showing as Collin Springmeyer ripped a liner from 38 yards out just under the crossbar.

The game winner came from the Knights’ Ashton Cotton with 5:36 to play.  Cotton kicked a screamer from 25 yards away on the left wing.  Like Springmeyer, Cotton’s ball finished just under the crossbar.

The Knights held on to win 3-2 and advance to Saturday’s championship match against Lawrenceburg.

SEI Local Sports congratulates South Dearborn’s Kevin Brown and Hunter Ross as our Whitewater Motor Company Players of the Match.  Brown’s midfield goal was a momentum changer and he also played the mid position quite well.  Ross had just three saves but made several smart plays coming out from goal to secure the ball and limit Pirate offensive opportunities.
