Madison- It was big day at Sunrise Golf Course in Madison for the host Cubs who set a new Madison Sectional team scoring record of 292 to easily claim the 2012 boys championship. Madison’s Jordan Griffith shot a blistering six-under-par 66 to earn the title of Sectional Medalist and also establish a new individual Madison sectional record.
The top three teams and the top three low individuals, excluding those individuals who advance with a team, qualify for regional competition which will be held at Champions Pointe hosted by Providence this Thursday and Friday.
Teams advancing include: 1st Madison 292, 2nd Jennings County 317 and 3rd East Central 318.
Individuals advancing not on a top three team include: Michael Perry of Southwestern 70 (sectional runner up), Bryce Murray of Rising Sun 77 and Joe Mingione of Shawe Memorial.
The Cubs had three golfers finish in the top five overall. In addition to Griffith, Carson Wattenbarger carded a 71 and Dylan Bilz scored 74. Teammate Chase Garrett had an 81 which was included in the team total while Carson Cheatham was on the championship team with a non-scoring round of 84.
Here are the fourth through 11th place team totals: 4th Shawe 332, 5th Southwestern 337, 6th Rising Sun 343, 7th Milan 354, 8th South Dearborn 364, 9th Switzerland County 366, 10th Lawrenceburg 368 and 11th Jac-Cen-Del 392.
