(BKT/MB-Sun) St. Louis 8th takes Batesville Deanery tourney

Batesville- The St. Louis 8th grade boys basketball team won the Batesville Deanery tournament Sunday, defeating St. Nicholas 45-35. The Cardinals got strong play from all 10 players.

Jacob Koehne led the Jon Temple’s Redbirds with 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Matt Moorman recorded 13 points and three steals.

John Reer got the Cardinals going in the first quarter, scoring four of his six points during the period. Jordan Ertel shut down St. Nicholas’s main three-point threat while Ben Schwettman also played well defensively.

St. Louis posted a 23-12 lead at the half and a 36-19 advantage after the third before settling on a 10-point victory, 45-35.

The eighth grade Cardinals will travel to Indianapolis on February 12 to compete in the quarterfinal round of the Indianapolis CYO Archdiocese tournament. They will play St. Michael of Brookville at 1 PM at Scecina High School.
