There were two ties in the first quarter, but coach Aarron Garrett’s Bulldogs never trailed.  BHS had its biggest lead of the half, 18-11, and held on to an 18-16 edge after GCHS scored five straight to close out the first eight minutes.

Batesville’s Charlie Dice dropped in a pair of threes while Robert Raver worked inside and hit a couple of free throws to also log six points.  Greensburg’s Lane Sparks, Andrew Welage and Drew Comer each connected from long distance.  Sparks led all scorers after one quarter with seven points.

Sparks also played a big part in his team’s 10-0 run early in the second stanza which gave Greensburg its first lead, 26-20.  Batesville rallied for the half’s final seven points to retake a 27-26 advantage at the break.

Sparks and Raver did most of the scoring in the second quarter for their respective clubs.  Sparks added eight and Raver contributed seven.

There were three lead changes to start the third quarter. But after that, the Dogs netted eight straight points and 15 of the next 16 to take the largest lead of the night (11), 44-33.  However, coach Stacy Meyer’s Bucs battled back and trailed just 46-43 heading into the fourth.  The late run was fueled by a pair of 3-pointers from Drew Comer.  His six quarter points were only exceeded by the eight recorded by Batesville’s Trey Heidlage.

The Pirates kept the momentum to being the fourth and it was this 9-0 run that flipped the scoreboard one final time.  Greensburg went from three down to six up, 52-46.  The visitors got as close as four points twice, but the hosts held their ground and eventually won their fifth straight over their Indiana 46 neighbors, 63-53.

Comer continued his marksmanship from the arc in the fourth quarter with two more 3-balls plus made four charity tosses for 10 points.  Teammate Miles Wilkison added five in the closing quarter and Cameron Adams hit a trey.  The Bulldogs were held to just seven points.  Three came from Raver.

The one team stat which stood out the most was 3-point shooting.  Greensburg made 8 of 15 for 53 percent while Batesville hit just 3 of 11 for 27 percent.

SEI Local Sports congratulates Greensburg’s Drew Comer and Lane Sparks as our Whitewater Motor Company Players Of The Game.  Sparks led the Pirates in the first half with 14 points and finished with 20.  He never missed a shot from the floor in eight attempts.
