Lawrenceburg 9, East Central 5

The following is an unedited varsity baseball webcast report from Mike Myers.  We thank him for the report.

The Lawrenceburg Tigers went on the road in EIAC baseball play Monday evening and defeated East Central 9-5. The win moves Lawrenceburg to 9-4 in conference play and 17-7 on the season while the loss drops the Trojans to 6-7 in conference play and 9-10 overall.

After a pitchers dual through the first two innings the bats for both teams came alive as Lawrenceburg opened a 3-0 advantage in the top of the third. Eliot Reinshagen opened with a single and moved to third on a double by Saven Schnebelt. Ethan Weimer, who started on the mound for the Tigers, helped his cause when his triple plated two runs. Brother Austin Weimer singled home Ethan to lead then charge. In the bottom of the inning, Zachary Bovard’s one-out single started the bats for hosts. Eli Kramer singled and Bovard moved to third. Kramer stole second before Jack Hutchins was hit by a pitch. Trojan starting pitcher Jake Jennings picked up two RBI’s with his single to bring a 3-2 advantage for the Tigers at the end of three.

EC’s Jennings made quick work of the Tigers in the 4th facing only four batters and the Trojans took the lead in the bottom of the inning as Zach Monhollen lead off with a single against new Tiger pitcher Austin Weimer and Eli Kramer reached when he was hit with a pitch. Those two crossed home on the single by Simon Williams to give EC a 4-3 lead after 4 innings.

Lawrenceburg wasted no time reclaiming the lead as back to back singles by Ethan Weimer and Eli Helton opened the 5th followed by a walk to Austin Weimer. Peyton Hartman and Black Buddenburg each single and picked up an RBI as the Tigers lead again 5-4. An error allowed Jake Jennings to reach and move to second to open the Trojan bottom of the 5th and a single by Reid Cleary brought Jennings home to tie the game 5-5. With two on an excellent defensive play by Tiger shortstop Matt Ohlhaut was made to get a double play and end the Trojan threat.

EC brought in Gunner Seig to pitch in the 6th and he got the Tigers out in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts. In the bottom frame, Austin Weimer made a quick inning with a punch out, fly out and ground out to set up the explosive final inning.
