New Castle 9, Rushville 8

The following is an unedited varsity baseball report from Rushville coach Kyle Harpring:

The Lions jumped out to an early 2-0, fell behind by as many as seven runs, and rallied to have the tying run on base in the seventh before falling to New Castle on Wednesday by a final of 9-8.

Jake Barnes started for the Lions and suffered the loss. He allowed four earned runs in two innings. He struck out three and walked one. Duncan Draper allowed three runs in his only inning of work. He struck out two and walked two. Adam Leising gave up the final run in his two innings of work. Gage Rosenfeld was once again great in relief, allowing only one base runner in two innings while striking out three.

8 out of 9 Lions in the line up reached base in the game, as Rushville outhit the Trojans 12-8. Zach Hoeing led the way with two singles, a triple, two RBI, and two runs scored. Mason Springman continued his hot start with three singles, a run, and a run batted in. Cameron Craig added a single and a double and scored two runs. Jacob Ray contributed an RBI double and scored a run. Tyce Carroll singled and scored a run, while Aaron Duncan drove in a run with his single. Rosenfeld also added a hit. Springman, Rosenfeld, and Spencer Bowles all stole bases.
