Indy Lutheran beats Rising Sun 6-1 for 1A Regional 15 title

Morristown-  Rising Sun fell behind four runs in the first inning of the 1A Regional 15 final against Indianapolis Lutheran and never recovered.  The Saints beat the Shiners 6-1 on Saturday at Morristown.

This game was seen live as part of our spring webcast schedule and can be seen again in our archives by clicking here.

Indy Lutheran used four hits, a walk and a hit batter to produce four runs during the opening inning.  Noah Wood and Alex Kem provided RBI base hits.  Aidon Bradbury was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Matt Alter batted in a run despite grounding into a double play.

Rising Sun threatened in the second but the Saints tandem of Wood (catcher) and Alex Kem (second baseman) foiled a Shiner attempt of a double steal and tagged out the runner at the plate for the third out of the inning.

RS recorded its only run in the fourth.  Brent Turner singled and scored from first on an RBI double to right center by Derrick Eldridge.  No further runs were scored due in part to Wood making another good play on an attempted steal.   The Shiners were caught stealing three times by Wood.

The Saints put away any thoughts of a Shiner comeback in the fifth.  Patrick Kem led off with a single.  Jacob Faubion put down a sacrifice bunt but also reached on an error.  Wood later hit into a fielder’s choice that knocked in Kem but Faubion also scored on the same play thanks to a throwing error.

Bradbury, the IL relief pitcher, retired the final eight Rising Sun batters in order.  He pitched four innings and earned the winning decision as well as a co-Whitewater Motor Company Player of the Game honor.  Bradbury did not allow a run, surrendered only one hit and struck out two.  He also had one RBI offensively.

Teammate Patrick Kem was the other WMC Player of the Game.  Kem was 2 for 3 with two runs in the final and played solid defensively at shortstop. He also led all hitters in the regional with five total hits including two doubles.
