Expanded Edition Of Athletes Of The Week- December 18-January 6

SEI Local Sports would like to thank our area coaches and athletic directors who took the time to honor one or more of their varsity, junior varsity and freshman athletes as an Athlete of the Week (AOW). This expanded edition, due to the holiday break, is for the period of December 18, 2017-January 6, 2018. Every athlete submitted is worthy of this honor and we are proud to showcase all of them!

In addition, a committee has selected a group of varsity level AOWs as Elite Athletes of the Week.  This special list includes one varsity athlete per sport per conference (EIAC and ORVC/Independent).  For this expanded edition, some categories have two Elites.  While some athletes participate in sports not recognized as conference sports by the EIAC and ORVC, those athletes are still eligible for Elite AOW under the EIAC or ORVC/Ind. umbrella.

ELITE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to this group of outstanding athletes selected by committee as our Elite Athletes of the Weed for December 18, 2017-January 6, 2018.

EIAC BOYS’ BASKETBALL ELITE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

EIAC GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ELITE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Athlete’s name: Varsity Team, East Central

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Basketball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Varsity Team
  • Submitted by: Kevin Moore
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments/submitter’s personal comments: Because of injury, we’re out four key players at the varsity level, two at JV and one on the freshman team. Through this adversity, it’s certainly shuffled many roles.  Our kids have really dug in and competed their butts off to continue winning at a very high level.  They have bought into the message and game plan for each game. In the previous four varsity contests (3-1), the team is only giving up an average of 34 poitnts a game, which includes a double OT game. The individual defensive efforts by Abby Koch, Megan Caudy, Brilan McCory, Kyla Maxwell, Paige Hoog, Ashley McCool, Lauren Weiler and Tristyn Dennis are absolutely tremendous and bode well once we get Alyssa Robben, Logan Cox, and Hayley Tippitt back from injury.
  • Other information: Through 18 games, we’ve started 10 different kids and have had 8 different starting lineups. We’ve had 9 kids score in double figures over the course of the season as well.

The 200 Medley Relay was the only record that did not have her name on it after her freshman year. At Madison, the relay team consisting of Abby Cole, Ally Furnish, Abby Niswander and Zoe Cole took care of business. Ally is the second athlete to accomplish this amazing feat.  Mikhail Cole did it for the boys in 2013.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Ally is truly a team player and will do her best at whatever you ask her to do. She will be the first to tell you that relay records are not set without a team and has worked very hard at making the entire team better.
  • Other information: Ally is a very well-rounded athlete. She has been recognized as an All-Sectional volleyball player and All-Conference in volleyball, track and swimming. The sky is the limit for this young lady.
