Athletes of the Week for October 16-21

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

SEI Local Sports would like to thank our area coaches and athletic directors who took the time to honor one or more of their varsity, junior varsity and freshman athletes as an Athlete of the Week (AOW). This edition is for the period of October 16-21, 2017. Every athlete submitted is worthy of this honor and we are proud to showcase all of them!

In addition, a committee has selected a group of varsity level AOWs as Elite Athletes of the Week.  This special list includes one varsity athlete per sport per conference- EIAC and ORVC/Independent (Oldenburg).  While some sports are not conference sports in the ORVC, ORVC/IND. athletes participating in such sports are eligible for Elite AOW under the ORVC/IND. umbrella.

ELITE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to this group of outstanding athletes selected by committee as our Elite Athletes of the Week for October 9-14, 2017.

EIAC BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY ELITE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

  • There were no athletes submitted for this category which closes this week.

EIAC GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY ELITE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

  • There were no athletes submitted for this category which remains open for one more week.

ORVC/IND. BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY ELITE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

  • There were no athletes submitted for this category which closes this week.

ORVC/IND. GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY ELITE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Athlete’s name: Leah Anders, Switzerland County

  • Level/Sport: Girls Varsity Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior
  • Submitted by: Kristopher Sandlin
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Leah qualified for the state cross country meet in a school record time of 19:04.  This is the first time she has qualified for state and is only the third individual in school history to do so.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: This is a great accomplishment for Leah and it shows her, and those around her, that hard work pays off. I couldn’t think of an individual more deserving of this accomplishment.

EIAC FOOTBALL ELITE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Athlete’s name: Defensive Unit, Lawrenceburg

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Football
  • Athlete’s year/position: All grades
  • Submitted by: Ryan Knigga
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: The Tiger defense shutout Brownstown Central for three quarters in the first round of the sectional.  The No. 12 Braves averaged over 35 points per game during the regular season.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: This unit has been solid all season. They work well together and play fast. They are a huge part of the Tigers success.

ORVC/IND. FOOTBALL ELITE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Athlete’s name: Zac Minnich, Milan

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Football
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Wide Receiver and Free Safety
  • Submitted by: Ryan Langferman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Zac had 2 catches for 61 yards and a TD during Friday night’s victory over Heritage Christian. Although the stats are not overly impressive for a single night, these catches propelled Zac into the Top 10 for career receiving yards in IHSAA football history. Zac now has 3117 career receiving yards.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Zac works hard to improve and perfect his skills, spending the time necessary to make him one of the best receivers in the state.
  • Other information: Zac appeared on the cover of Indiana Football Digest this fall as a Primetime 25 Player- the first in Milan Football history.
