Athletes of the Week for January 16-21

SEI Local Sports would like to thank our area coaches and athletic directors who took the time to honor one or more of their athlete’s as an Athlete of the Week.  This AOW edition is for the two weeks of January 16-21, 2017.  It may be updated through Thursday of this week.  Each school with at least one submission has its own page.

Our AOW program is non-competitive and designed to highlight the special efforts of our student athletes at the varsity, junior varsity and freshman levels. While many of those honored are because they performed at a high level, others may be recognized because they showed improvement, displayed outstanding teamwork and/or sportsmanship, excelled in the classroom or did something to benefit others in their community.

Any of these things are worthy of recognition and we are proud to showcase ALL of our deserving athletes.  While we encourage AOW submissions each week, this is a voluntary program and not all teams or schools are represented.

BATESVILLE

Athlete’s name: Liz Heidlage

  • Level/Sport: JV Girls Basketball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Freshman Point Guard
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Asst. Girls Varsity Basketball Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Liz played a great game in our victory over Greensburg as she was 3/4 from the 2-pt. range and 1/1 from the 3. She also had 6 assists.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Liz has gotten much more confident in her shot and is now becoming a shooting offensive threat as a point guard. Her quickness on both the offensive and defensive side is fun to watch.

Athlete’s name: Kendall Dickman

  • Level/Sport: JV Girls Basketball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Sophomore Guard
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Asst. Girls Varsity Basketball Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Kendall has been out for several weeks now with really bad shin splints. We put her in the game very minimally. She stepped up and hit 2/3 3-pointers and had 1 steal to help lead our victory over Greensburg.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: It has been quite frustrating for Kendall the past couple of weeks and to see her not only hit those 3s but the smile on her face was priceless.

Athlete’s name: Stephanie Nobbe

  • Level/Sport: JV Girls Basketball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Sophomore Forward
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Asst. Girls Varsity Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Stephanie came right into the game, posted up, made a good post move and scored. She continued to do this and, many times, getting fouled. She shot 75% from the free throw line helping our victory over Greensburg.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Stephanie can always be counted on to play hard and with everything she has for the amount of time she is on the court. She has been working on all the little things and it continues to show on the court.

Athlete’s name: Audrey Weigel

  • Level/Sport: JV/Varsity Girls Basketball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior Guard
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Asst. Girls Varsity Basketball Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Audrey put down 17 points in our overtime loss against Rushville and also had 3 steals.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Audrey has been working a lot on her shot and her three pointers are starting to become automatic.  She is also a great driver, quick and hard to stop.

Athlete’s name: Baylee Rolfing

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Basketball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior Forward
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Asst. Girls Varsity Basketball Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Baylee had two impressive double/doubles for last week’s games. First, 23 points and 10 rebounds vs. Rushville then 17 points and 12 rebounds vs. Greensburg.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: I know you have seen Baylee’s name a lot, but it is hard to keep her off of the Athlete of the Week list with the performances she keeps putting forth.

Athlete’s name: Sylvia Phillips

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Basketball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Guard
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Asst. Girls Varsity Basketball Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Sylvia does many excellent things that you do not really see in the score book.  The Rushville game was no exception. As a guard, Sylvia pulled down 7 boards and had 4 assists.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Sylvia is a great senior leader!

More AOWs follow.
